Traffic jams are costing transporters 80 euros per hour

According to logistics news platform Flows.be, the Belgian Institute for Road Transport and Logistics (ITLB) has calculated that every hour spent in a traffic jam means an extra cost of 80 euros for transport companies. Since road congestion in Belgium keeps on growing and the cost of delays increases year after year, transport companies are even taking this extra cost into account in the calculation of the total cost price.

Trucks have never spent as much time stuck in traffic as they did in 2017. This is why several transport companies decided to introduce a surcharge to their customers. The time lost in traffic, will from now on be paid by the clients, via a so-called ‘congestion tax’. The ITLB calculated this hourly cost based on factors like the cost of the vehicle, of the driver and of the engine running.
